Al Shabaab publicly executed six men for espionage after the Al Shabaab court in Jamaame district sentenced then to death by firing squad. The six were accused of spying for the Federal Government of Somalia as well as Jubbaland and South West states.
Al Shabaab affiliated media stated that Aadan Cabdullaahi Boorow, Maxamada Iidow Aadan, and Cusmaan Cabdulle Afrax were found guilty of spying for the Federal Government of Somalia. Maxamed Iidow Aadan and Hilowle Bashiir Aadan were convicted of working for South West State intelligence service. Al Shabaab found the sixth man, Xassan Hafow Saney, guilty was of spying for Jubaland State.
While al Shabaab faces immense pressure from the US airstrikes and relentless ground assaults from allied partners, the intelligence unit, amniyat has been scouring central and southern Somalia arresting potential offenders against the terror organization.
The intelligence wing alleges that the six executed among others are heavily responsible for relaying intelligence about Al Shabaab’s leadership and operational capabilities. Thus, the executions are geared at curtailing the ‘enemies’ from gaining insight into their operations and reduce the gains made by the infidels.
