The Al-Qaeda branch in Somalia persistent attacks targeted at Somali National Army (SNA) Forward Operating Bases has been witnessed lately.
On Sunday 22nd September 2019 at around 5:30 am, local time, Al-Shabaab terrorists using Vehicle Borne Improvised Explosive Devices (VBIED) rammed the gate of SNA Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Elsalini village of Lower Shabelle.
Locals and military intelligence assets from Somalia confirmed that SNA-FOB in Elsalini came under heavy attack from the Shabaab fighters.
Initial BDA indicate that 23 Somali Army soldiers were killed 6 vehicles captured, and army’s weapons and ammunition also captured.
1 government soldier was captured alive (POW) as the terrorists reportedly overrun/destroyed the SNA base. Reports further indicate that Al-Shabaab withdrew at Midday.
In a statement on its affiliate media, Abdiasis Abu Musab, Al Shabaab’s military operations spokesman, claimed that the group’s fighters had overrun an ‘apostate’ military base killing 23 of their soldiers and taking one alive.
He added the fighters had taken military vehicles and weapons from the base, including anti-aircraft guns.
