Wednesday 4th December 2019, an Al-Shabaab operative was arrested in Somalia capital Mogadishu in possession of a hand grenade. His arrest comes barely a week after another Shabaab operative was arrested planting an explosive device (IED) on a vehicle.
Military assets in Mogadishu confirmed of his arrest and noted that his plans to cause harm with the grenade were successfully thwarted.
Security forces last week arrested an Al-Shabaab element in Mogadishu’s Zoobe area after he planted an improvised explosive device (IED) on a vehicle, a norm that has become a preferred attack type for targeted killings/assassinations by the Al-Qaeda affiliated jihadist group.
Joint security operations have been intensified in Mogadishu in recent months with the city recording majorly low-scale attacks.
