Heavily armed Harakat Al Shabaab Al Mujahideen militants on Wednesday 30th September night attacked the Somali National Army base in Ali Mire settlement near Baraawe.
The militants engaged the soldiers in fierce battle which lasted for hours into the wee hours of Thursday.
SNA drove the militants away and those who fled sustained injuries from the soldiers’ gun offensives. The army was able to retain control of the base and the area which was recently liberated from the Al Shabaab control.
Ali Mire location lies 15km from Baraawe and is a key entry point to the town which was recently liberated from militant rule.
The militants wanted to take control of the base so as to easily gain entry into and consequent control of Barawe. Their efforts were however thwarted by the defense of the Somali National Army.
