Heavily armed Al-Qaeda (AQ) linked Al-Shabaab attempted attack on SNA military base in Mogadishu was successfully repulsed on Saturday night.
The attempted raid began with grenade explosions followed by heavy gun fight at the army base in Mogadishu in Wardhigley district.
According to military reports from Somalia, the government forces managed to repulse the attack after intensively engaging Al-Shabaab fighters in a fierce gun battle that lasted for about 30 minutes.
The militants fled the area after encountering stiff resistance. Several bodies of Al-Shabaab fighters were retrieved after the gun battle.
Corresponding open sources reported that troops belonging to SNA and AMISOM jointly carried a massive security operation on Sunday morning in Hamar-Jajab neighbourhood in response to the Saturday night botched attack. Several suspects were arrested in connection with the incident.
