Al Shabaab Couple Arrested In Eastleigh, Nairobi By Kenyan Police For Financing Terror Group

Police in Kenya have arrested a couple suspected of financing and offering logistical assistance to the al Shabaab terror organization based out of Somalia. The couple, Yassin Abdille Hussein aka Abu Sumeiya and his wife Fartun Mohammed Guleid were arrested in Eastleigh, Nairobi.

The two are also believed to be accomplices of a key al-Shabaab operative in Mandera, Abdiweli Mohamed Guleid alias Abdiweli Kamaure. Kamaure is the mastermind behind the November 2014 Mandera bus attack where the militants killed all the non-Muslims on board the Mandera-bound bus. Kamaure is the second in command of the terror organization in Gedo region.

The couple who are Somalia nationals are said to have emigrated from Gedo region of Somalia, belong to the Marehan clan and have been living and operating in Kenya with fake documents.

Intelligence reports indicate that the couple owns several businesses which they use to funnel funds to al Shabaab terror organization especially seeing as Kamaure is the woman’s sister.

The 42-year-old Hussein is a contractor who mainly operates his renovation trade in South B and parts of Eastleigh areas of Nairobi, Kenya.

Further, reports maintain that they couple can be linked to funding attacks by al Shabaab in Billa-Hawa and Mandera and other positions along Kenya-Somalia border.
