South West forces have killed Al-Shabaab commander in a security operation carried out in Bakool region. The commander identified as Moalim Derrow was alongside his three bodyguards in a security operation conducted by South West forces in the outskirts of Wajid district in Bakool region.
Intelligence reports show that Derrow was traveling with a convoy of several bodyguards when they were attacked by the security forces killing the fours and wounding several others who are being pursued by the forces.
Security officers in Wajid district further confirmed that the forces recovered weapons and ammunition including 4 AK-47 rifles during the operations. Derow has been linked with several major attacks in the region and as such the death is a major blow to the al Shabaab in the South West region.
Bakool regions is one of the strongholds of Al-Shabaab, Wajid has been under siege since 2014. However, the operations by the security forces show a clear and gradual progress in retaking the region from the al Shabaab militants.
