A high-ranking Al-Shabaab commander surrendered to the Somali Government in Bay region of Somalia.
According to a report by State run media, the Shabaab commander identified as Adan Mohamed alias Adan Shah, defected to Southwest authorities. He surrendered his gun to the to the government forces in Baidoa town.
The terrorist commander surrendered to the authorities alongside another Al-Shabaab fighter. The two are expected to collaborate with the authorities in providing intelligence about the group’s operations in the region.
His defection comes barely a week after another militant, identified as Mohamed Addo turned himself in to the authorities in the same region.
Since February, the number of the defectors from Al-Shabaab militant group have significantly increased following President Mohammed Abdullahi Farmajo’s 60-day amnesty that started in February.
