The district commissioner for Awdhegle a strategic town in Lower Shabelle was killed in a bomb attack. Mohamed Yarow, the victim was the target of an improvised explosive device (IED) as he was travelling between Awdhegle and Sabib in the same region.
The blast is said to have killed two other people and injured soldiers who were part of his security detail. The attack has since been claimed by the al Shabaab who have been struggling to recapture the town which is strategically located near River Shabelle.
The agricultural town south of Somali capital, Mogadishu was recently recaptured by Somali armed forces from the armed group al-Shabaab. Several attempts by the group to retake the strategic town at the bank of the river Shabelle were repulsed by the troops.
