Somali-based al Qaeda affiliate, al Shabaab attacked Somali National Army (SNA) forces in Mogadishu, Somalia’s capital. The attack targeted SNA soldiers with a grenade in Wadajir District where they claimed to have inflicted several casualties.
Separately, armed militants shot dead a senior Somali Intelligence official in Sinka-Dheer area, located on the outskirts of Mogadishu, according to Al-Shabab statement.
Al Shabaab has adopted a new modus operandi of carrying out ambush attacks on security officers with explosives and grenades a move that can be credited to their diminishing ability to mount big well-planned attacks. The attack comes as AMISOM says that the al Shabaab presence and control of territory has declined greatly and the group is on the verge of absolute defeat.
