Military reports from Somalia indicate that, Al-Qaeda aligned Al-Shabaab on 22nd May 2020 at around 2000 hours probed AMISOM’s Kolbio Forward Operating Base (FOB) using PKM rounds.
The FOB has been a target of the Islamist militants. On 27th January 2017, the militants attacked the military base and briefly took control of Kolbio town. Kolbio military base is held by the Somali Armed Forces and the Kenya Defense Forces
In another raid, same day, at around 1910 hours, the militants attempted to stage an attack on Hosingo Forward operating Base using PKMs from different directions. Hosingo is a town in the southeastern Lower Juba region of Somalia and is close to the Kenyan border.
Reports further indicate that the brief attempted probes were successfully repulsed.
As the Holy month of Ramadhan comes to an end, possible targets to continue to beef up their security by increasing surveillance day and night by covert scouting to ensure they detect enemy movement in time. The army patrol units should also be versatile enough to engage and destroy enemy capability and combatants.
