Fighters linked to the Al Qaeda affiliate in Somalia ambushed a military convoy belonging to the African Union forces in Southern Somalia on Friday 8th April 2016.
AU troops quickly responded. Fierce gunfight erupted; reports indicate several Al-Shabaab fighters were killed while others fled after being overpowered.
Speaking to local media, deputy commissioner of Mahaday town in middle Shabelle region, Abdulle Hussein confirmed the surprise ambush on AMISOM forces travelling from Mahaday and heading to El Baraf saying the forces managed fight them killing unconfirmed number of militant fighters.
Al-Shabaab continues to wage surprise attacks on SNA and AMISOM forces in Somalia. Though the militants have been dislodged from key towns and localities, they continue waging hit and run attacks.
