Somali police have arrested an al Shabaab assassin that has shot and killed a government soldier in Mogadishu, the country’s capital. According to officers in the capital, the assassin was forced to surrender after a tip-off from the public around the area he was hiding out.
The arrest comes after the mayor of Mogadishu announced security operations targeting al Shabaab and ISIS terrorists holed out in various part of the country’s capital. The operation was specially announced after 36 people were killed and dozens of others injured in the past week by assorted al Shabaab attacks claimed by the al Qaeda-affiliated al Shabaab.
The mayor urged the public to remain, vigilante, as well as render necessary help to the security officers seeking to restore security and normalcy in Mogadishu and its environs. The security measures will include roadblocks as well as searches in public transports and neighborhoods that are known and or suspected to aid al Shabaab militants.
In past years, the public has in equal measures worked for al Shabaab but the recent times the public has become instrumental in apprehending terrorist and maintaining security especially in Mogadishu.
