The Al-Qaeda affiliate, Al-Shabaab operating in the Horn of Africa, Somalia has in unprecedented move announced that it will soon publish a communique to Kenya’s President Uhuru Kenya regarding the invasion and presence of Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) in Somalia.
The group’s media and propaganda wing, the Al-Kataib, issued a press release where the terrorist group notified that by the permission of Allah, the Almighty, they will release a message they said its ‘important’ to the Kenya President and his government.
Al-Kataib Foundation, Al-Shabaab’s media production wing also spread a video message from a Kenyan prisoner of war (pow), identified in the video as Gerishon W. Wasike, captured by Al-Shabaab in its raid against KDF base El Adde on Jan 15 2016. The pow featured in the video is seen asking Kenyan President to free him and to remember of his existence after five years of silence.
Its highly likely that Al-Shabaab will make this communique, whereby threats will be issued to the Kenyan President and his government to withdrawn KDF from Somalia. Kenyan troops have been the greatest threat to Al-Shabaab in southern regions of Somalia, especially Gedo and Juba regions from where the group lost huge amount of finances, especially monies, levies and taxes that came from the sea port city of Kismayo, Lower Juba before being captured by KDF on 28th September 2012.
Kenya’s multi-agencies, security and counter-terrorism actors should be on high alert as this could possibly be a coded message of an already planned attack on Kenyan soil.
