Suspected Al Shabaab terrorists early morning launched an attack on Garissa College – a constituent of Moi University. The attackers who dissimulated themselves as worshippers joined other Muslim students for the morning fajr prayers at the University’s mosque at around 5:00am. During the prayers, gunshots were heard coming from the mosques as worshippers abruptly cut short their prayers and scampered for safety.
Minutes later, explosions could be heard as the now-masked gunmen went on a shooting spree around the university. There are also indications that the gunmen took several hostages but almost all the hostages managed to escape. The gunmen attempted to place the university under siege but their plan was thwarted by a combined force of KDF and KPS officers.
The early response team was composed of police officers who managed to cordon off the university as they received reinforcement from KDF. Several police officers were injured during the process, but KDF personnel and police officers were able to enter the university and engage the attackers. The siege was lifted as the gunfight died down and by 8:00 am, calm had been restored and medical personnel were busy attending to the injured.
This type of terror attack bears close resemblance to Boko Haram attacks on Universities located in Northern Nigeria. Likewise, ISIL has conducted similar attacks on Universities, the most prominent being the attack on Mosul University. The adoption of this terror tactic by al Shabaab indicates a diffusion of terror strategies across ideological and cultural boundaries.

very unfeeling elements who need to be crushed by all means
For ones i am reading something positive in the whole incident. ‘The gunmen attempted to place the university under siege but their plan was thwarted by a combined force of KDF and KPS officers.’ The forces are becoming alert!
we sing psalm 124
Every attack underscores the level of unpreparedness on the part of our security agencies. Complacency, low morale, societal rot, corruption, bad governance, religious fanaticism, etc, etc.
