The Al-Qaeda affiliated Al-Shabaab continue to stage sporadic attacks from across various regions of Somalia. Confirmed military intelligence reports from Somalia indicate that, in yet another latest assault, Al-Shabaab attempted to stage attacks on SNA military bases in El Salini and Barire towns in Lower Shabelle region of Somalia.
Reports further indicate that during the encounter, at least 10 Al-Shabaab fighters were killed and several other retreated with fatal injuries as both attacks were repulsed.
Al-Shabaab has raided SNA El Salini military bases severally. Al-Shabaab in Lower maintains at least two to three attacks in Lower Shabelle region of Somalia targeting the soldiers, who had been fighting along with African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) to stabilize the Horn of African nation.
There have been reports from open sources that Al-Shabaab capabilities have been degraded but going by witnessed events from central and southern Somalia regions, the militant group has been able to morph over the years.
Despite increased U.S. air raids and allied troops operations that group has not been defeated. Military assets need also to change tactic to counter the militant’s morphed strategies especially during this period of Ramadhan when martyrdom operations are expected.
