The Al-Qaeda affiliate Al-Shabaab suffered yet another huge setback after losing a strategic supply town of Ba’adweyn town in Central Somalia in latest army operations.
The Islamist militants who control large swathes of rural central and southern Somalia have been using the key town to unleash terror against both military and civilian targets.
The militants captured the town four months ago. Ba’adweyn town is an important supply center in the Horn of Africa nation, especially within the Mudug region.
The town was recaptured in joint military operation taking over control of Ba’adweyn and surrounding areas and villages in the early hours of Tuesday. Other localities captured include Harardhere and Imaamd villages in Southern Mudug in Galmadug state.
In separate operations, the army troops also recaptured a number of towns in Middle and Lower Juba.
The operations follows another successful raid that saw a senior Al-Shabab commander identified as Mohamed Abdi Suubiye “Toosoow” killed alongside 16 other militants, in Darussalam near Adan Yabaal of the Middle Shabelle region southern, Somalia according to military sources.
