The U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM) in support of the weak Federal Government of Somalia security forces conducted an airstrike that targeted an Al-Shabaab compound in the vicinity of Dujuuma, Somalia on Feb. 23.
U.S. military assets notes its important to support the African-led counter-terrorism operations in East Africa, to enhance the security of the region besides other countries on the continent.
The Al-Qaeda affiliated Al-Shabaab has expressed its primary desire is to conduct attacks in East Africa, targeting security forces and U.S. interests in the region. U.S. continues to intensify air campaigns against the terrorist group in an effort to disrupt group’s network and plans.
Initial assessments on Dujuuma air raid conclude three terrorists were wounded and an Al-Shabaab compound was destroyed as a result of the precision airstrike. No civilians were injured or killed as a result of this airstrike.
In another U.S. airstrike conducted on Feb. 22. in Saakow town of Middle Juba, two Al-Shabaab militants were killed, one wounded and a number of their assets destroyed.
