President Uhuru Kenyatta recently appointed Lt-Gen Joseph Kasaon as the Kenya Vice Chief of the Defence Forces who now takes over the mantle from Gen Samson Mwathethe.
This took place in a historical handing over ceremony which saw the president appoint Gen. Samson Mwathethe as the incoming Chief of the Defence Forces and Lt-Gen Leonard Muriuki Ngondi as the new Kenya Army Commander.
Lt-Gen Joseph Kiptoo Kasaon was appointed as the Vice Chief of Defence Forces, armed with 35 years of military experience. He has previously served as the Commandant National Defence College among other various capacities.
Vice Chief of the Defence Forces will be working with Mwathethe in their new military positions.

Kasaon is expected to fulfill his constitutional mandate as Vice Chief of the Defence Forces by defending and protecting the people of Kenya and their property against any eternal aggression.
His appointment comes at a time when Kenya’s Defence docket is experiencing major improvements in line with the President’s promise to intensify security in the country.
Terrorism has posed great threat to the country’s security. Therefore, the sworn Vice Chief of the Defence Forces has confirmed that he will work together with already established security departments in fighting against terrorism.
