One of the terrorists who stormed Kenya’s Garissa campus on Thursday and shot 147 people was the son of a local leader, Kenyan security sources revealed.
Mohammed Abdirahim Abdullahi, the son of Abdullahi Daqare, the chief of Bulla Jamhuri location in Mandera County, was a law student at the University of Nairobi in the country’s capital.
Abdirahim had allegedly dropped out of his law course in 2014 to join al Shabaab in Somalia and could not reveal his whereabouts to neither his family nor friends, until security identified his body in Thursday’s Garissa attack.
This revelation comes at a time when the government has embarked on an operation to compile a list of people suspected to have joined Somali militant group al Shabaab including their financiers and sympathizers.
Youths who are missing and suspected of having joined al Shabaab are also going down the long list that will aid in hunting them down and bringing them to book.
Leaders from Garissa, Mandera and Wajir in close coordination with security officials are expected to help draw up the list, Kenya has promised.
