Central Intelligence Agency CIA admits it underestimated the ISIS threat, president Barrack Obama admitted publicly, once again bringing into perspective the aspect of Intelligence Failure in the US Intelligence Community since 9/11.
CIA and other national security agencies downplayed the threat posed by ISIS in Iraq besides their operations and growing presence in Syria.
US Intelligence also overestimated the capacity of the US trained Iraqi army to fight ISIS in Iraq itself.
Iraqi army military was routed by the ISIS leading to scenarios where a whole battalion ran away leaving US military equipment including armored personnel carriers, tanks, and weapons.
ISIS grew to a regional threat through the Syrian conflict as a smokescreen which shielded it from detection.
