At least 49 Al-Shabaab militants have been killed in the latest joint SNA and ATMIS military operation conducted in Lower Shabelle region of southern Somalia.
A statement issued by the Somali Information Ministry late Wednesday, the military operation took place in the village of Buulo Madiino, in the country’s Lower Shabelle region. Corresponding reports from locals in the region say they heard heavy explosions.
The Ministry of Information statement indicated that the targeted operation went as planned and destroyed all the military vehicles and weaponry of the Khawarij Al-Shabaab (Khawarij is a term for someone who deviates from Islam).
The Al-Qaeda associated militants were hit while planning to stage an attack on Somali people. The operations come days after Somali president Hassan Sheikh Mohamud visited frontline towns in the central regions of Hiran and Galgadud where Al-Shabaab increased attacks have been witnessed.
Similar military operations backed by local militias have been reported in Hiran region.
