Three children aged between 8 and 12 years were killed by an IED as they were looking for firewood. The children stumbled upon the device that had been put up by the ISCAP militants in the village of Kinyajojo, near Boga, in the territory of Irumu in Ituri.
Unlike previously when the group would mount ambushes and in-person attacks, the group has gradually moved to incorporate IEDs in their attacks a common method of attack by terrorist organizations across the globe. The use of IEDs is considered a more effective mass-casualty-attack weapon which at the same time reduces the casualty on the jihadist side.
The threat posed by ISCAP in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) continues to grow as the use of IEDs continues to be a frequent occurrence. The group has been setting up IEDs in Beni and Ituri where the group has been attacking civilians and security forces.
