Several Al-Qaeda affiliated militants were killed and at least 41 captives rescued in Afghan National Defense and Security Force (ANDSF) operation in the Marwa village of Pashtun Zarghun district in Herat Province.
According to Ministry of Defense (MoD), 41 people including 19 Afghan National Defense and Security Force members and 22 captive civilians were released from the militants’ prison.
According to the deputy spokesman for MoD, seven Taliban militants were also killed and some of their weapons and ammunition were also destroyed during the operation.
Meanwhile, MoD stated that 13 Al-Qaeda affiliates for the Indian subcontinent (AQIS) were killed in Helman province. Afghan Air Force targeted Taliban and Al-Qaeda hideouts in Popalzu area of Khansheen district in Helman province.
MoD further highlighted that Haji Ulfat, a key Taliban operative was also wounded during the AAF air raids. Most of the killed “militants” were reportedly skilled bomb makers and were responsible for training the militants and many bomb attacks from across Helman and Herat provinces.
