Two mid-level Al-Shabaab commanders were among the several militants killed in southern Somalia.
According to military intelligence sources, the raid carried out, targeted Al-Shabaab stronghold in Jamame and in Haway in the country’s southern regions of Lower Jubba and Lower Shabelle on Monday.
The raid targeted a meeting that was being held in one of the militant’s group training camp in Jamame. Reports from the sources indicate that, the Al-Qaeda-linked militants had recently concluded training in which they were preparing a unit of fighters to conduct surveillance and attack Bar Sanguni Forward Operating Base (FOB) near Kismayo.
Among those killed was a mid-level commander and member of the group’s executive council identified as ‘Yusuf’.
In Haway neighborhood in Lower Shabelle, another raid targeted another camp where the militant had gathered on Monday.
Local sources and intelligence sources reported that Mustaf Ato, the special adviser of Al-Shabaab’s Emir had been killed in that raid.
The killing of Al-Shabaab mid-level commanders in the volatile southern region of Somalia is a huge blow to the militant group which has a huge control.
