Ethiopian troops under AMISOM in Somalia killed at least 17 Al Shabaab terrorists via airstrikes in a pre-emptive attack against the al Qaeda affiliated militants. The Ethiopian National Defense Force’s (ENDF) Eastern Air Force division conducted multiple airstrikes near Kortole and Hirkut in southwestern Gedo.
Al Shabaab was preparing to attack an ENDF convoy that was escorting artillery from Dolo Ado to the town Baidoa. Among the militants killed were part of the explosive team as well as the larger attack crew that were decimated before they could launch an attack against the Ethiopian troops.
According to the Ethiopian military, the Al Shabaab had previously attacked their military convoy near Luuq in the Gedo region. The al Qaeda affiliated group has been attacking military convoys both to advance their agenda as well as replenish on the depleting supplies due to the ongoing onslaught against them in the various regions of Somalia.
