The Kenya Army Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) continues to record major success against Somali terrorists, Harakat Shabaab al-Mujahideen (HSM), an Al-Qaeda affiliate in the region. KDF improved its strategic capability to defend its FOB’s, COP, FSB, & MOB’s in theater (AMISOM Sector 2).
Army killed 2 terrorists and injured their operations commander outside Abdalla Birolle KDF-FOB. Terrorists mounted a probing attack targeting the forward operating base (FOB) on 28th March 2020 at 2050hrs EAT. FOB Joint Rear Defense Unit outright killed the enemy RPG and PKM gunners/unit at 350 meters (after timely drawing of the enemy to kill zone).
Army’s area defense strategy concentrates on denying enemy forces access to designated terrain for a specific time rather than destroying the enemy outright. Army area defenses seek to retain terrain and absorb the enemy in an interlocking series of positions and attriting the enemy largely by fires.
KDF Continues to improve on its capability to destroy enemies through better strategies such as kinetic operations and mobile-fighting patrols in AOR besides exploiting advanced warfare hardware and tactics. Shabaab al-Mujahideen terrorists continue to depend on flanking attacks to attack military camps in Somalia. KDF capability to robustly counter these level 2 and 3 threats is an incredible success in counter insurgency operations (COIN) and the Counter Terrorism mission objective.

the kinetic area defense strategy is a good move for our defense forces to counter the terrorist probing and flanking attacks on the bases now that we’re majoring on mobile fighting patrol I think we should major on intelligence and monitoring to ensure that we are one step ahead of the terrorist also the community policing method should be applicable in the area …according to my view that will make as more prepared and ready to counter the attacks.. meanwhile kudos bravo Zulu comrades
