Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) troops on Thursday 19th March 2020 killed 12 Al-Shabaab militants in a raid at their camp inside the vast Boni Forest in the coastal Lamu County.
KDF’s Special Operations team following on credible intelligence tip-off, raided the militants at Korisa Kotile camp, which has been their hideout and logistical camp for a long time now. The militant camp is situated at Nginda, between Korisa and Bargoni.
This raid is a big blow to the Al-Shabaab militant cell operating in Boni forest citing among the killed figures was a notorious local commander from the Coast region. The commander has been very instrumental in providing intelligence and logistical support to militants hiding in the forest.
Military Sources also confirmed that one armed militant with an AK-47 rifle and four magazines was captured in the operation.
The KDF soldiers also recovered weapons, including three AK-47 rifles, seven magazines, more than 1,000 bullets, pouches and a water carrier.
The raid comes a week after KDF Special Forces killed six Al-Shabaab militants and captured one in Garissa County in northeastern prefecture.
