Installation of CCTV cameras in the capital Mogadishu will great help in boosting security in terror-ridden city.
The connection especially at Maka al-Mukarama road and other key intersection leading to the city center towards key government buildings including the Presidential palace is aimed at improving security in the business districts.
The Al-Qaeda aligned armed group Al-Shabaab many times carried out attacks in the form of car bombs and other explosive devices targeting hotels and other social areas popular with security forces and government officials.
Last week, nearly a dozen people were killed and eleven others wounded when four Al-Shabaab gunmen dressed in security forces’ uniforms attacked SYL hotel which is near the Presidential palace.
The attackers were able to breach security and accessed the heavily fortified area besides siege in the hotel for hours.
The installation of CCTV cameras will help security forces in surveillance and significantly if the program succeeds will greatly stem down the militant’s activities in Somalia’s capital. The program is expected to face a significant threat of destruction from the militant elements and sympathizers.
