MOGADISHU, Tuesday, 10th December 2019. A small group of Al-Qaeda affiliated, Al-Shabaab fighters storm a heavily fortified SYL Hotel in Mogadishu.
The militants were all wearing Somali security forces uniformed armed with light weapons.
The militants believed were five in number successfully entered the hotel and opened fire on people indiscriminately.
Somali lawmaker Mahad Salad confirm that Hotel SYL in the capital Mogadishu is under attack.
Within first hour into the siege, security forces managed to get into the hotel and dozens rescued.
Al-Shabaab militants have so far claimed responsibility of an attack on Hotel SYL, Mogadishu.
Military assets in Mogadishu Somalia have confirmed that the Al-Qaeda aligned Al-Shabaab stormed a popular SYL hotel, opened fire killing two security forces and three civilians.
The attackers drove in the pick-up truck commonly known as Abdi Bile and popular with Somali police and military.

The sources further reported that the Shabaab gunmen were guised in Somali security forces’ uniforms and making it easier to for the to make through the many roadblocks and eventually gaining access to the hotel which is located near a highly fortified area around the Presidential palace.
After about an hour into the siege, security forces managed to gain access into the hotel killing all the terrorist elements ending the attack besides rescuing dozens of people who had been trapped into the hotel.
Somali citizens have been urged to closely cooperate with security agencies to prevent a similar attack in the city.
Al-Shabaab claimed the responsibility for the attack. The group’s spokesman, Abdiaziz Abu Musab said their militants stormed the hotel compound near the presidential palace.
