Kenyan security forces destroyed logistics and operational Al-Shabaab camps near the border with Somalia.
The multi-agency security forces targeted the camps which the Al-Qaeda affiliate, Al-Shabaab uses t train its local fighters and subsequently deployed to conduct attacks in general localities of Lamu and also to other prefectures close to Somalia border.
The destroyed camps were located in inside the vast Boni Forest in Lamu county, where the multi-agency security operation, Linda Boni has been ongoing.
Reports indicate that the team comprising KDF military officers, rural border patrol police unit and the regular police were involved in the operation.
During the operations, the forces managed to confiscate 19 rounds of ammunition, foodstuff, solar panels, and clothes.
The militants have in the past targeted KDF soldiers on humanitarian and civil mission to fetch and distribute water to the residents in the general area of Kiunga and Mararani, by planting IEDs along Kiunga and Sankuri road.
- Security forces need to intensify operations inside Boni to destroy the remaining training bases.
- Locals also need to cooperate and partner with security forces in terms of sharing intelligence in order to preempt threat posed by these militants.
- Locals also to be warned against hiding terror element and desist from aiding them perfect their attacks.
- Militants regularly target Kenyan security patrol teams by planting IEDs on the majorly routes, thus security forces need to change patrol routines.
