A U.S. airstrike killed an Islamic State facilitator in northern region of Somalia, U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM) announced in a statement on Sunday.
The airstrike conducted on Saturday in Golis Mountains in the northern region of Somalia killed a key ISIS facilitator and coordinator of the terror group.
Somalia’s main Islamic militant, Al-Shabaab, has sworn allegiance to al Qaeda and has frequently fought with a splinter militia operating the country’s northern region that has pledged allegiance to ISIS.
The United States forces have carried many air sorties in Somalia in support of a weak Federal Government Forces which has been able to defeat Al-Shabaab for nearly two decades. The forces are also supported by African Union forces in the fight against terrorists.
