A Terrorists improvised explosive device (IED) detonated in Kiunga, a border area in Lamu County in coastal Kenya. The explosive device targeted a Kenya border security patrol unit. The explosive was reinforced with an ambush targeting the BSP. 2 BSP officers were critically injured while 3 terrorists were gunned down.
The border security unit members engaged the attackers and repulsed the attack killing 3. The Somali terror group Shabaab Mujahideen has cells that continue attempts to breach the border area. The cells target security personnel with improvised explosive devices and armed ambushes. Though heavily armed, the cells activities are limited due to lack of essential supplies such as bullets and food.
The terror group claimed it conducted a double attack in Dhusamareb in Mudug region on Sunday while on Monday, it claimed the assassination of an assistant to a court President in Mogadishu.
In Halgan District of Hiraan region, the group claims killing and wounding 20 Ethiopian military personnel serving under AMISOM.
