A Low scale explosion caused by a terrorist’s vehicular improvised explosive device (VBIED) was reported mid-day Sunday 30th June outside the main headquarters of the money transfer company Dahabshil, in Bakara market of the capital of Somalia, Mogadishu. 3 Civilians were injured, according to police reports.
This is the 1st attack after a lull in attacks in the city. The event signals a possible resumption of terrorist activity in Mogadishu. No group has claimed responsibility yet. Islamic States and Al-Qaeda branches in Somalia, Abna Ul Caliphaa and Harakat Shabaab Mujahideen terrorists respectively have presence in Mogadishu though Shabaab has very significant presence compared to the Islamic States affiliate.
The vehicle borne improvised explosive device was attached to a Toyota pick-up truck. The remote detonation happened outside the main headquarters of the Dahabshil Money Transfer Company, one of the largest banks in Somalia. 3 Suspects were arrested.
