Several al Shabaab militants were killed after Djibouti troops serving under AMISOM engaged the terrorists in a battle that lasted several hours in the outskirts of the Jalalaqsi. The location of the attack is in the agricultural-rich region of Hiiraan region in Somalia.
Intelligence revealed the fighting began when armed fighters from the Al-Qaeda-linked militant group, Al-Shabaab, launched an ambush attack on a military convoy carrying Djibouti peacekeepers.
Following the attempted ambush, the AU troop conducted mop-up operations in the area that led to the arrest of at least 30 suspected al Shabaab and sympathizers. Al Shabaab has been dealt serious blows coordinated efforts of the US airstrikes, allied AMISOM troops as well as SNA troops in recent weeks. It is paramount to note that the security operations that have been stepped up during the Holy Month reduced the number of would-be deadly attack previously observed.
