At least three (3) terror suspects from Zanzibar, Tanzania were imprisoned for a term of 15 years over terrorism acts.
The three identified as Mbarouk Ali Adibu, 34, Idarous Abdirahman, 32, and Islahi Juma, 22, were last year (2018) arrested in Wajir county, a few kilometers to the Kenya-Somalia border and were in possession of items used to commit terrorism activities.
The three appeared before Wajir Senior Resident Magistrate for sentencing on Wednesday 30th January 2019 following convictions on Tuesday 29th January 2019.
Following on intelligence tip-off, they were arrested by anti-terror police officers at Kutulo while planning to cross into Somalia to join the Al-Qaeda linked Al-Shabaab.
After their arrest, they were remanded in Wajir Prison on October 19, 2018 following they’re not guilty pleas pending completion of police investigations.
Wajir County has borne the brunt acts of terrorism and is often used as transit route to Somalia by terrorist recruits.
