Kenyan security officers have actively repulsed an attack by Al-Qaeda affiliated al Shabaab targeting a construction in the site in at Shimbirey near Garissa town. The security officers intercepted the militants as they attempted to overrun the construction site managed by a Chinese company engaging them in gunfire that resulted in several dead and others gravely wounded.
Anti-terror police as well as KDF in the northern frontier of Kenya have been on high alert following the recent attack in the country’s capital on the 15th of January. The police are in pursuit of escaped and injured militants in what is being viewed as a mop-up operation in the frontier areas to rid the region of al Shabaab cells possibly embedded.
This came less than 12 hours after police arrested three suspects, two from Somalia and a Kenyan in Hagadera, Garissa County.
