Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) will stay in Somalia to fight the Al-Qaeda linked Al-Shabaab until its defeated and peace and stability is restored in the region.
President Uhuru Kenyatta who is also the Commander in Chief of the Defense Forces made the remarks during the commissioning of the sixth batch of Officer Cadets at the Kenya Military Academy, Lanet on Thursday 29/11/2018.
The Kenyan troops were deployed in the war-torn Somalia in 2011 to neutralize Al-Shabaab fighters along with other African Union troops.
President Kenyatta reiterated of Kenya’s commitment in bringing peace and stability in Somalia and in the region saying KDF will not exit Somalia but will continue their work in Somalia until the Horn of African nation returns to full normalcy.
The President lauded KDF forces and asked them to remain steadfast to their mission of bringing peace and lasting stability in Somalia with unwavering zeal and determination.
He also called on the new officers to keep the tradition of the Kenya Defense Forces of being among the best soldiers in the world.
“KDF has a track record for discipline and respect that is recognized nationally and internationally,” said the President.
