At least 40 Islamic State fighters have been killed by Afghanistan security forces in different locations across the country. The terrorists were targeted in parts of Nangarhar province and other strongholds of the terror organization by air and ground raids.
According to Selab army corps commander in the east of the country, 17 ISIS fighters were killed in the raids on their stronghold in Nazyan, Doorbaba and Ghanikhail districts. 23 ISIS fighters were killed in the raids in Nazyan, Kot, and Chaparhar districts while the rest were killed by airstrikes in Nooristan province.
Several hideouts and weaponry were destroyed in the raids and it is believed that the fighters have been offering haven for foreign fighters and other ISIS members fleeing the war in Iraq and Syria where the US-led coalition has recently resumed with vigor to rid the strongholds off of the ISIS control.
