At least one Al-Shabaab operative was killed when Somali Troop backed by U.S. Special Forces s raided their base in general area of Mubarak village of Lower Shabelle region, southern Somalia on Tuesday night.
Also, unspecified number of Al-Shabaab militants fled with gun wounds, National Intelligence Service Agency (NISA) source said Wednesday morning.
The intelligence aided operation targeted an Al-Shabaab training and logistical operating base in Mubarak village of Lower Shabelle region.
The joint raid last night that involved two helicopters by Somali troops and U.S. troops targeting the town of Mubarak comes less than 24 hours after eye witnesses spotted a joint unit of American Special Forces and Somali troops conducting operations on Tuesday morning hours in the area between Afgooye and Balcad.
NISA command said that the Somali Special Forces retreated to avoid civilian casualties.
Al-Shabaab which thrives on propaganda gave a different account. They claimed to had foiled the raid and killed two Somali soldiers in a close quarter battle in Mubarak, close to Dar-assalam where they had killed a member of U.S. Navy Seal last year.
However, Al-Shabaab has increased its insurgency in Mogadishu the capital of Somalia, and extending its attacks across regions of Somalia. In the past recent months, the Al-Qaeda linked Al-Shabaab at least claims an attack in Somalia daily.
