Iran unveiled its first domestic fighter jet on Tuesday 21st August 2018. The new fighter jet called ‘Kowsar’ was designed to boost Tehran’s military capabilities and to deter enemies in an effort to create ‘lasting peace’.
Images on State television showed President Hassan Rouhani sitting in the cockpit of the new “Kowsar” fourth-generation fighter jet at the National Defense Industry exhibition in Tehran.
State media reported that the fighter had advanced avionics and a multi-purpose radar, and for the first time that it was 100-percent locally made.
Rouhani emphasized that in manufacturing the new jet, Tehran only seeks for lasting peace and that by increasing it military power does not mean Iran is seeking war.
The Defense Minister Amir Hatami also noted that Iran is focusing on upgrading its missile capabilities.
Iran Defense Minister alleged that, the U.S. has sold hundreds of billions of dollars of weapons to Iran’s regional rivals, while at the same time demanding Tehran to curb its defense programmes, and is in the process of re-imposing crippling sanctions in a bid to force its capitulation. America has also imposed economic sanctions on Tehran.
