Somalia’s National Army Chief, General Abdiweli Jama’a Gorod and other top military officials arrived in Kismayo for an official visit geared at propelling security operations against al Shabaab in Jubbaland state.
General Gorod and his delegation paid a visit to Sanguuni military base in the outskirts of Kismayo where the government forces and US Special Forces recently conducted a strategic withdrawal.
In a press conference, the general said that the government forces have killed over 120 Al-Shabaab fighters in intensive security operations conducted at Bay, Bakool, Hiran, Jubba and Shabelle regions.
The visit is very significant as it kickstarts a series of offensives against the al Shabaab terrorists especially in Jubbaland and other areas of central and southern Somalia.
