27 al-Shabaab militants were killed during an airstrike that took place 41 kilometers (26 miles) southwest of the coastal town of Bosasso.
The strike occurred after Al-Shabaab militants raided a regional military base in Balikhadar.
According to the statement, no civilians were killed in the airstrike.
“U.S. forces will continue to use all authorized and appropriate measures to protect U.S. citizens and to disable terrorist threats” in Somalia, the statement said.
