An AMISOM armored vehicle is reported to have been ambushed by al Shabaab militants in Golweyn area located 75 miles south of Mogadishu. The attack is said to have been preceded by a roadside mine set by the militants that hit the AMISOM carrier before they ambushed the soldiers.
The African Union troops retaliated resulting in a several-hours gunfight that led to the killing of several al Shabaab militants. Intelligence reports indicate that the al Shabaab terrorist retreated and fled into their havens. AMISOM troops have since launched a manhunt for the errant terrorists.
Al Shabaab has vowed to step up attacks in the holy month of Ramadhan.
