Eleven terrorists of the Islamic State group were killed after attempting to storm two villages in southwestern Kirkuk.
The Hawija police and the Tribal Mobilization Forces repelled the attack by Islamic State militants who attacked Gharib and Hanaf villages in southwestern Kirkuk.
Of the 11 attacks killed, 5 were suicide bombers. One Iraqi policeman was killed alongside a member Tribal Mobilization Forces.
In October, Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi declared that Iraqi troops recaptured Hawija, a main town held by Islamic State in the country.
In June 2014, the town had fallen under Islamic State when the militant group ddclared themselves a “aliphate”. This forces thousands to fled the pprovinces and became refugees after IS took over.
In 2017, the Caliphate was defeated after Iraqi and U.S forces fought them off and reclaimed back the proviinces.
