Puntland and Somaliland forces have clashed again for the second time this month in the Tukaraq area in Sool region, Northern Somalia on May 24.
Each of the parties released a statement blaming the other side for attacking first.
On May 15, a crossfire erupted after Puntland troops at frontline came under ambush by breakaway Somaliland soldiers early in the morning.
On May 16, UN called for the reconciliation of Puntland and Somaliland Forces citing possible outcomes of further conflict. Such a conflict could displace thousands of people and fuel instability and discord which in turn allows violent extremist groups to grow.

Somaliland and Puntland both claim the Sanaag and Sool regions near Tukaraq. In 2017, Somaliland forces evicted Puntland forces from Tukaraq.
Somaliland and Puntland have previously fought battles since 2002 over control of disputed regions in Northern Somalia.
