Somali government forces conducted a major security operation in the capital, Mogadishu on Sunday night as a counter-operation amid the rise in killing and attacks. The security sweep targeted Yaqshid, Deynile, Howlwadag and Heliwa districts in the capital during the night, and arrested dozens of people linked to Al-Shabaab militants.
The security operation came hours after Somali PM Hassan Ali Khaire held meeting with security chiefs in Mogadishu and urged them to tighten the city’s security and protect people.
Somalia has been battling the al Shabaab seeking to establish a sharia government by toppling the western-back government currently headed by President Farmajo.
