A senior Al-Shabaab commander on Saturday surrendered to government authorities on Gedo region of Somalia.
The defection of terror figure identified as Abdihakim Hussein Yusuf comes barely a month after a similar defection in South West State.
Abdihakim Hussein Yusuf confessed to have been in the Al-Qaeda (AQ) linked group for over four years.
He regretted to have fought what he thought was holy jihad saying he decided to leave the terror group after it killed innocent, elderly men in Gedo region and later took their property.
He called on those still in the group to defect to the government before it’s too late. Abdihakim is expected to provide vital information on groups’ operations to Somali authorities.
Last month, a former bomb making Al-Shabaab member surrendered to Somali army in Baidoa. Addow Moalim Isak is reported to have been in charge of explosions and terrorists’ military training in Bay, Bakool, Gedo, Lower Jubba and Benadir regions.
