The Al-Qaeda branch in Somalia Harakat Al-Shabaab Mujahideen (HSM) conducted coordinated attacks targeting AMISOM and Somali Army Bases in Bulo Marer, Golweyn, Qoryoley and Mashallay in Lower Shabelle region of Somalia.
The terrorists detonated 2 VBIEDs on Ugandan Army AMISOM contingent base at Bulo Marer followed by infantry.
Uganda Army confirmed their base was attacked and that 4 soldiers died in.
Al-Shabaab issued a statement claiming to have killed 59 UPDF and losing 14 of their fighters. This is a change in tact. Rarely does the terror group admit losing large numbers of fighters. It’s also rare for the terror group to conduct large scale attacks on army bases in broad daylight, particularly midday or mid afternoon.
The terror group also conducted VBIED attacks targeting am AMISOM forward operating Base in Golweyn. This was a strategy meant to disrupt deployment of urgent reinforcements at Bulo- Marer.
