At least 130 people were arrested and a cache of over 7830 weapons recovered in North Darfur in a campaign in the area targeting people with different kinds of violation. Among those detained were gangs, drug dealers, weapon dealers and other criminals involved in random and organized violent activities.
The security forces also apprehended 240 4-wheel-drive vehicles for military use the is said to have been used in various clashes in Sudan. The suspects are suspected to have been members of militias in the region with ties to Janjaweed and that the disarmament was necessary to avoid further violence and use of weapons on innocent civilians or catalyze war.
